Civil War Documentary Broadcast Premiere on KET

It was over a year-and-a-half in the making, 200 hours of which were audio production, but the first in a series of documentaries about the Civil War in the West is finally done. "Long Road Back to Kentucky: the 1862 Confederate Invasion of Kentucky" debuted on KET March 10, 2007. Civil War historian and author Kent Masterson Brown, who wrote and hosted the program, takes viewers to battlefields throughout Kentucky, many of which are largely untouched since 1862.

Produced in High-Definition through the facilities at Post Time Productions,
"Long Road" contains some interesting visual elements:
The maps were scans of actual Civil War-era maps
Soldiers were from authentically accurate re-enactments in Perryville, Richmond and Georgetown
◆Props in close-ups were antiques from the Civil War era

Sound Design by Neil Kesterson of Dynamix Productions included:
◆Most battle sounds, such as rifles, pistols, cannons, soldiers, and horses were recorded specifically for this project
◆Most SFX were from the re-enactments and were recorded in high-resolution digital M-S Stereo
◆Some music was customized from orchestral loops
◆The DVD is mixed in 5.1 surround

"Long Road" will enjoy repeated airings on KET in the future, and is currently being considered by national syndicators and networks. The DVD version is 100 minutes and includes 25 more minutes of historic information than the broadcast version.
